Maintenance and Care

Keeping your teeth clean is essential during orthodontic treatment, whether you wear braces or aligners. Brushing and flossing after every meal helps prevent plaque buildup and keeps your treatment on track. Not sure which products to use? Just ask—we’re happy to help.

Brushing with Braces

Brush for two minutes after each meal using a soft-bristled or electric toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Hold the brush at a 45° angle and gently clean around each bracket and along the gumline using small, circular motions. Don’t forget to brush all surfaces, including chewing surfaces and behind the front teeth.

Flossing with Braces

Use a floss threader or orthodontic floss to get under the wires and between your teeth. Gently slide the floss under the gumline and along the sides of each tooth. Repeat between each tooth. A water flosser can help if traditional flossing becomes tricky.

Caring for Invisalign aligners

  • Brush and floss after meals, just like you normally would.
  • Rinse trays with clear liquid soap—not toothpaste—and use only lukewarm water to avoid warping.
  • Always remove aligners when eating.
  • Store them in their case when not in use to keep them clean and safe.

Keeping up with these habits will protect your smile and help you reach your goals faster.
