Orthodontic Appliance

Invisalign® Palatal Expander

This is the future of palatal expansion! This removable expander is custom-designed with advanced 3D technology. It’s and clinically proven to widen upper jaw.

At Cherokee Orthodontics, Dr. Giselle is always seeking the latest proven innovations, and we are proud to be one of the first practices in the community to begin offering this treatment since early 2024.

Traditional Palatal Expander

A traditional palatal expander has been widely used in orthodontics for many years. This fixed expander gently widens the upper jaw to create room for developing teeth and is most effective while a child’s bones are still growing. Some children may notice temporary tongue interference or slight changes in speech, which usually resolve within a few days

Herbst Appliance

It is a fixed device designed to correct severe bite issues by shifting the lower jaw forward and the upper jaw back. This appliance works with your child’s natural growth to encourage proper jaw development and improved bite alignment. Some patients may experience mild discomfort or tongue irritation at first, but these sensations typically subside within 1–2 weeks as the mouth adjusts.

Schwartz Expander

This removable appliance gradually widens the upper arch using a small center screw turned at home as directed. Great for mild expansion needs.

Transpalatal Arch (TPA)

A metal arch that connects upper molars to stabilize or rotate them during or after orthodontic movement. Often used alongside TADs to enhance results.

TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices)

Small, temporary implants that act as anchors to help move specific teeth more efficiently—often used in complex cases. Clean carefully around the TADs to avoid gum irritation.

PowerBar™

Used before braces or aligners, this appliance improves the bite by shifting back teeth into better alignment. It connects the canine and first molar for controlled movement.

Lower Lingual Holding Arch

A fixed space maintainer is used when baby teeth are lost early. It holds space open to prevent crowding and future extractions.

Nance Appliance

This space-holding device prevents molars from shifting. It consists of two bands around the upper molars connected by a wire and an acrylic button behind the front teeth.
